“Needle & note: a ballet remembered”

Through sampling and research, I made the discovery that hand embroidery provides a bridge back to the world of ballet. I became drawn to the rhythmic repetition of stitching—similar to sewing my pointe shoes—and found a new layer of meaning in the act. This journey led me to hand-embroider a poem I wrote onto organza, a fabric that once graced my body, and moved with me in harmony across the stage. As the needle passed through the fabric's delicate surface, it became a way to revisit moments of grace, discipline, and devotion. In this act, memory and movement become intertwined, allowing ballet's lasting imprint to thread itself through my art in a new, expressive form.
“Delicate threads of organza dance
Light as the breath of a fleeting glance.
It sways with the grace of a pirouette
Softly Echoing steps unmet.

Through leaps and turns it whispers low,
Tracing the air in a gentle flow.
Like ballet’s form, it’s fragile yet strong,
A fabric that sings its own silent song.
Woven with care, it mirrors the soul,
Of the dancer’s heart and the ballet’s goal.
A union of light, of strength, and chance -
Organza and ballet, a seamless dance."
