“a dance of yarn”

This knitted ballet garment is a continuation of the story I’ve been weaving throughout my senior work—a reflection of movement, memory, and the delicate endurance of the dancer’s spirit. Inspired by the softness and grace of a traditional ballet skirt, this piece transforms the idea of flight and fluidity into something tangible, yet weightless. Each knitted loop mimics the rhythm of a dancer’s steps: stretching, turning, pausing—echoing the quiet language of the body in motion.
Unlike the structured crispness of tulle, the knitted form breathes with a gentler life, offering a tender reinterpretation of the costumes that once shaped my world. It is not just a garment, but a vessel of memory, spun from the same devotion and discipline that has guided my journey from dancer to artist.
By creating this piece, I continue to explore the essence of ballet—not through direct replication, but through material storytelling. It stands as a soft bow to the past and an open embrace of how movement, texture, and memory merge in the work I create today.
